GEICAM is the leading academic group in clinical, epidemiological and translational breast cancer research in Spain

Having been active for more than 20 years, GEICAM has become the leading academic group in clinical,  epidemiological and translational breast cancer research in Spain. It is also highly recognized at an international level.

Multidisciplinary and collaboration are GEICAM’s main signs of identity

For GEICAM, the future for the treatment of breast cancer implies a multidisciplinary approach, i.e. with teams of professionals in hospitals, comprising the different specialists involved in prevention, diagnosis research, and treatment: radiologists, pathologists, biologists, surgeons or gynaecologists, radiation oncologists and medical oncologists among others. One of the basic principles of our work philosophy is the promotion of collaboration between the experts involved in the prevention and treatment of this tumour and that of specialists in molecular biology and genetics. On this point we have established collaboration agreements with Spanish centres of excellence in the field of basic research so as to relate biological findings with patients’ clinical evolution. Our aim is to offer a global, and not merely a local vision of the breast cáncer.

Since 1995, we have produced 100 publications with an accumulated impact factor of 1136,242. GEICAM also participates in internationally relevant congresses, such as the ASCO Annual Meeting or the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS), gathering 260 interventions including oral communications, posters and poster discussions.
